Using a mover to move you can be very frustrating. Choosing the wrong mover can be hell.

Some of the worst movers are not even movers...they are scammers just trying to make a quick buck. Many of these moving scams say that they are licensed and insured when they are not; they promise low moving rates, then hold your possessions hostage until pay even more; many of these companies are actually ex-cons.

And, unfortunately, moving scams are not just committed by illegal, rogue movers but by legitimate movers as well. Many of the moving scams are not scams at all but just plain bad moves. These bad movers are done by bad movers.

Now that you are scared out of your head I want to tell to relax because most moves are completed without a hitch. The majority of movers out there are actually very good and decent people providing you with a great service.

The only word of advice is to research your potential mover thoroughly before you hire them. And I don't mean just ask them a couple of questions over the phone. Do your homework. Google them and check and ask for references. Ask for referrals from your friends and family that have used movers in the past.

On last tip: Always tip your movers well for a job well done. Make sure your movers know if they do a good job that they will get a nice tip. This will greatly improve your chances of a great moving experience.
